Internet Connection Speeds Issues

One of the things people seem to worry about with the internet most is the speed of the connection, how fast pages load and how fast things get downloaded. Different service providers have different speeds for different prices, but whether the customer chooses dial up, high speed or fibre optics, it is often confused with the computer speeds and tech support gets a lot of pointless calls.

When a customer thinks they are having slow speeds, the first thing one should ask is where they are noticing the slow speeds. Is it browsing from page to page online? Downloading a song on a music downloader? Or opening basic programs on the computer? If it is downloading music, one should know that peer to peer programs have their own set ups for speed and it has nothing to do with internet speeds.

If the customer has trouble opening basic programs, that is a signal that it is the computer that is slow and internet speeds have nothing to do with that either. However, if the problem is browsing from page to page in the browser, then the next step is to run a speed test. The most popular site to do this is at Speedtest.net, as it gives the most accurate readings.

If the speeds aren’t what they should be, give the internet provider’s technical support department a call and they can generally give a great walk through on how to fix the problem. Sometimes it is as simple as a click.
